It was a brilliant victory that kick-started with a goal from Andreas Iniesta two minutes after the start of the match. Shakhtar Donetsk never recovered from it and went on to lose two more goals within the first half itself to Alves and Pique. However, they attempted a comeback in the second half when Rakitskiy scored an away goal to get a ray of hope for the Ukrainian side, but their hopes of a comeback were soon quashed after goals from Keita and Xavi completed the rout.
